Bicentennial Man

(1976/2000) Isaac Asimov, Millennium, pbk, £5.99, 211pp, ISBN 1-85798-932-5

Re-released to coincide with the recent film adaptation of the title story, starring Robin Williams, this is one of two mid-seventies collections of Asimov shorts (the other being Buy Jupiter (1975), itself recently re-issued by Millennium). Seven of the twelve stories are from 1976, including the award-winning Bicentennial Man, but the charm of this book rests largely with the ‘autobiographical’ comments between stories. My personal favourite story is That Thou Art Mindful of Him (1974), though the whole collection is quite satisfying in its own way. Recommended.
